You Have More Control Than You Think You Do
Control seems like an illusion most of the time. Control over everything is just not possible. To many other factors play into life. You invite people to a celebration and not everyone shows. You’re driving to work and traffic is more than usual. You expected a promotion, instead you got let go.
Giving up control to others for so many years starts to seem like that is the way it is supposed to be. To add to this problem, so many others around you are doing it too! You might think they are choosing it too. Like the job they have, the hobbies they choose, the habits they can't break and more. You might be that to someone else!
Joshua 24:15 tells the people of Israel to choose whom they will serve. If you read from verse 1 to 28 you will read all that God did for them and the choice they made. Submit control to God. Choose God over the worldly things that are controlling you now. Every day you have a choice, to choose to give control to God or to the world.
Once you choose to give control to God you will discover that you can choose more things for yourself (In accordance with God’s will) then you have ever realized. When things that do not feel right to you come along, you can choose the way that is right for you. When a new job offer comes along, but you will see your family less, you can choose what is right for you and your family. When peer-pressure is on you to go somewhere or do something, your confidence in choosing God will allow you to also choose what is right for you. Speaking from personal experience, this becomes a regular cycle and you will find joy and peace more often, especially in the really hard times.
Joshua 24: 15 And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” NKJV
