2 Steps to Faith: Told Then Called

S) In Matthew 22: 1-14 Jesus tells the parable about a king who invites guests to his son’s wedding. The guests did not come (v5-6) “But they made light of it and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his business. 6 And the rest seized his servants, treated them spitefully, and killed them.” So the king invited any others instead. Verse 10 “So those servants went out into the highways and gathered together all whom they found, both bad and good. And the wedding hall was filled with guests.”

F) Being called to faith is 2 steps. 1) God tells you something is coming 2) He calls you to it. If I know every detail beforehand then it’s not faith. From helping at church outside of a regular service or more, trust what you are called to do.

P) Pray that you hear the call to faithful, faith lead, and faith filled events or activities in your life. Pray that they become a priority.

Often, we make faith in God more complicated than it needs to be. The example above points out that when you are called, your first response is to show up. After that there is more to do and more to work on, but the initial steps are short and easy. Planning, dreaming, doing, and living it out all that come after you show up to where God has called you. Showing up for you might be praying, going to church, telling a friend about your belief, accepting Jesus for real or something else. The wedding guests had plenty of other things they wanted to do and to those on the outside those were the “right” choices to make. However, you know better that those were not the right choices. Time to adhere to His call.
