My oldest is going on a missions trip soon. I agree with all that you have said. My wife and I did some of the things you recommended. In the end, faith in God won out in tipping the scales to a yes.

This is a huge moment in parenting and faith. Been through it a couple of times. Depending on the age of your child, sending them on a mission trip can be a valuable part of them developing thier relationship with faith that is separate from you, the parent. However it can be scary for Mom or Dad to let go in this fashion. If we allow ourselves to be moved by fear instead of faith, we run a risk of responding in a way that hinders their growth or gets in the connection we have with our kids. I recommend, doing thorough research if you are unfamiliar with the group you are sending your child with. And then, doing thorough time with the Father in prayer and worship to get HIS heart on the matter. Once you know what HE says on the matter, you can rest on HIS promise to protect your child and walk with them into the beginning of one of the most exciting chapter of their lives...their journey into FAITH.
